Personalized LASIK Screening
The first step in ensuring you’ll have an excellent outcome is to determine if you are a good candidate. At the Longwood Eye & LASIK Center, our doctors and vision correction counselors will assess your specific visual needs and recommend the best options for you.
Our Lasik Technology
WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser System
We perform all of our treatments on the WaveLight® EX500 Laser, the fastest refractive surgery platform available in the U.S.. The only excimer laser to operate at 500Hz, with an average treatment time of 1.4 seconds per diopter*. Built on trusted WaveLight excimer technology, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is the next leap forward in fast, accurate refractive laser treatments.
Wavefront Optimization
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser utilizes wavefront optimized technology to capture and automatically compensate for the unique curvature of your eyes, allowing your doctor to customize your laser vision correction treatment and preserve the highest quality of vision.
With earlier laser systems, the “optical zone”, or area of correction, was centered on the front of the cornea; the result was a flattened circular area that ended with an abrupt edge, causing unwanted side effects like poor night vision, glare, and halos.
The illustration below demonstrates the use of additional pulses to the cornea periphery which preserves the aspherical shape of the cornea. This compensation, combined with the incredible small 1mm size of the laser beam, produces a smooth, effective optical zone that results in higher quality vision.
PerfectPulse™ Technology and Smart Energy Control
The Allegretto laser is the fastest and most precise laser system with the ability to treat the widest range of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The PerfectPulse Technology™ safely and accurately controls every single laser pulse from start to finish. It is applied to help ensure safe and precise work at high speed.
Smart Energy Control automatically measures and balances the energy level to ensure that each laser pulse delivers the same accurate result. After the beam has been created, it passes through three check points, where the energy level is checked and adjusted if necessary, ensuring that the beam is perfectly attuned to its destination.
Eye Tracking Technology
High-speed eye tracking is used to follow the eye’s fastest movements. Every 4-6 milliseconds, the eye’s location is measured and the internal mirrors of the WaveLight are automatically aligned. Just before each pulse is released, a final check is made to confirm the position of the eye. This happens 200 times every second, once for every laser pulse.
As a result of these unique technologies, the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is completely controlled, achieving the most accurate level of correction possible.
Oculus Pentacam
The Oculus Pentacam is an essential tool for diagnosis and management of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery.
The innovative technology of the Pentacam has enabled physicians to analyze the front surfaces of the eye with an accuracy that was previously not available, thus permitting them to diagnose eye conditions and diseases with greater confidence.
The pentacam captures a high resolution image of the anterior eye segment and provides information from the anterior corneal surface to the posterior crystalline capsule. The images generated are three-dimensional rotating models used for corneal topographic and chamber analysis. They are movable presentations that are highly reliable and precise.
Key advantages of the rotating image process are:
- Precise measurements of the central cornea
- The correction of the eye’s movement
- The easy fixation for the patient
- Extremely short examination time
Best Diagnostic Technology for LASIK Treatment
We use only the most advanced diagnostic equipment to determine your candidacy with the utmost confidence. During your free 60-minute consultation, we’ll perform a thorough examination including:
- auto-refraction
- pupillometry
- corneal topography
- pachymetry
These tell us about, not only your prescription but the size of your pupils, the shape, health and thickness of your cornea, and the level of aberrations present in your visual system. All are critical in determining if LASIK is right for you.

What is 20/20 Vision?
Generally speaking, if your visual acuity is determined to be 20/20, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision sees at 20 feet. Comparatively, if you have 20/40 vision, you see at 20 feet what a person with normal vision could see from 40 feet. And, if you’re one of the lucky ones who has 20/15 vision, you can see at 20 feet what others would have to move up to 15 feet to see.
Will I See 20/20 After LASIK?
After LASIK, most patients see as well, if not better, than they did with their glasses or contacts. As a matter of fact, one thing that makes our office special, is that we’ll provide you with our actual results with other patients as your same prescription – in writing. Whatever your prescription, we’ll provide you with specific information about your likelihood of achieving 20/20 vision. No guessing. No generalities. Just the actual data to help you make an informed decision.

LASIK Eye Surgery Results
Results matter most. So be sure to research what other patients are saying about their own experience with your surgeon. Specifically, look for reviews about how they were treated, before, during and after their LASIK procedure.
Also, pay attention to their reviews about their vision after LASIK. How well do they see? Are they happy with their vision? Your LASIK experience should be both enjoyable and effective. Taking time to identify top surgeons with outstanding patient care will help you achieve both.

Testimonials
My experience at Longwood has been amazing thus far! My vision has significantly improved after the LASIK procedure. The staff were very friendly and did the utmost in making me feel comfortable throughout the process. 10 out 10, would definitely recommend!August 12, 2024
Had cataract surgery for both eyes. Entire experience was excellent... from the entire staff to Dr. Warren. Everyone had time to answer any questions and explain the procedure itself. Highly recommend Dr. Warren !! It's been two months since my surgery and am very pleased with the results. Thank you.July 08, 2024
I wish I explored LASIK sooner. This office’s staff are incredibly knowledgeable, especially Dr. Warren who did my procedure & Dr. Walkowiak who I have met with prior to my procedure, as well as after for post-op. The surgery coordinator, Laura, was so helpful with answering questions, scheduling appointments and ensuring all questions were answered. I was a better candidate for PRK vs. LASIK which has been nothing but positive. It has been life changing to not have to wear contacts or glasses.July 06, 2024
I had my LASIK here on Thursday and couldn’t be happier. I have worked on getting over my severe phobia of eyes but when I was ready to do the surgery, this was the place. Dr. Walkowiak was so kind and thorough and answered all of my questions; he was honest and very reassuring about what to expect. His instructions for pre-surgery made me know they were looking out for me and my eye health. Dr. Warren did the surgery and was equally amazing, he told me what to expect and was a reassuring pretense throughout. The entire staff was fantastic and I never doubted like I was in good hands. I am referring them all over the place, and my only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner- but later is better than never. I can’t recommend Longwood enough.June 23, 2024
I am in my 40's and waited a long time to get LASIK done. I had worn contacts for 20 years and was happy with them, but over time they started to irritate my eyes more and more and I decided it was time. I'm an emergency physician but chose the Eye and LASIK Center in West Springfield because of the great online reviews and they were completely right! From my very first visit, everything was very professional and efficient. Over my initial (free) consultation and a pre-op visit, Dr. Walkowiak answered every one of my questions honestly and in a way that was easy to understand. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Warren made me feel completely at ease and the whole thing took maybe 10-15 minutes. It was completely painless except for maybe 10 seconds of slight discomfort on each eye. I was able to watch a movie that night and the next morning I was back to doing most of my usual activities with minimal eye irritation and PERECT VISION!! I can't recommend this group enough. I can look around now, see everything clearly with no eye irritation from contacts, and I can't believe I waited this long to get it done. Two big thumbs up and I will be recommending this group to everyone!June 20, 2024
This was the best experience I have had when it comes to corrective vision surgery. It was only $3k regardless of prescription within reason, and the doctors work as a team, throughly explain all risks and benefits and it includes six months of post op care. I had done consults with the two other big LASIK providers in Western Mass prior to finding Longwood Eye and LASIK. While those providers have their place… for standard ASA and LASIK they don’t make sense because they charge based on the severity of your prescription and rely too heavily on their non-medical staff when trying to help the patient decide which procedure is right for you, those other places consults felt like walking into a used car lot versus a medical provider you are trusting with one of your five sense …your sight. Longwood Eye and LASIK was straightforward, didn’t play pricing games, easy to book and reschedule with when needed, clean, professional and was honest. I spent over twenty years not being able to see properly and wish I had gone sooner.June 19, 2024
I went in for a LASIK consultation and after confirming that I was a good candidate with Dr. Walkowiak they were able to find me an appointment later that week. He explained the whole procedure to me and what I would have to do the day of. Dr. Warren was the one who did my surgery and he explained exactly what he was doing while he was doing it. It was a quick easy procedure and they made sure I was ok before letting me leave. The next day I went in for my follow up and was reading at 20/20. I got a couple more follow-up visits and was told if I had any questions or problems to give them a call. This was a very pleasant professional experience and they made me feel comfortable the whole time. With the overall experience and the reasonable flat rate, I don't think I could've found a better place to get this done.June 18, 2024
Getting LASIK was a non-event with Longwood Eye and LASIK … it was AMAZING. Customer service was great, prompt assistance when I had pharmacy drama, easy scheduling, understandable pre and post op instructions, kind people, and the procedure itself was a walk in the park. You could tell they’d done it a million times, but still cared for everyone. And on top of all that, the price was great, and financing was an option. I would 100% do it again.June 13, 2024
I have been wearing glasses since 3rd grade and contacts since 7th grade. I just turned 40 in Sept 2020 and decided it was time to ditch the endless cost and work of keeping up with contacts so I took the leap to do something for myself and get Laser Eye Surgery. I was a candidate for the ASA procedure and they were wonderful. So clean, patient, thorough.... during my consultation the doctor sat with me for 45 minutes while I asked all of my nervous questions. The idea of choosing to shoot a laser into your eye was a little frightening. The recovery was exactly as described - they prescribed all of the drops needed to ensure a healthy safe and speedy recovery. While I’m so impressed and pleased with my results, I’d have to say I am equally as pleased with the care and attention of the staff. If this is something you are ever considering doing - I urge you to get the Cadillac of eye surgery centers and go with Longwood Eye & LASIK. I personally went to the West Springfield, MA location but I’m sure the other locations are equally as wonderful. Thank you for giving me the gift of vision! It’s a whole new life for me!June 08, 2024
Longwood Eye and LASIK of West Springfield did my ASA procedure. This was the best decision I ever made. They walked me through every step and I was very very sensitive to someone touching or coming near my eyes and I have extremely bad anxiety and handled the procedure great! The entire team was thorough, informative, kind and do-diligent. We decided to do ASA instead of the LASIK procedure due to my sensitivity. The procedure itself was so quick that my fiancé didn’t even have time to go grab a coffee. Recovery was just as expected to what the doctors had told me and it’s now been 3 full months since my procedure and my vision is better then I ever imagined it could be without glasses. Right eye is 20/15 and my left eye is 20/20. When I first came in, I had horrible astigmatism and couldn’t read anything without glasses and everything was very blurry. Driving at night was almost impossible even with glasses and now I see so clear and sharp at night without any glare. If you’re thinking of doing LASIK or ASA I 10000% recommended it and I especially recommend Longwood Eye and LASIK of West Springfield! The price is great compared to others and the service and result are outstanding!June 05, 2024
