What Is Botox?
Botox is often mistaken for fillers, but it works entirely differently. As a neurotoxin, when it’s injected into the facial muscles, Botox works to temporarily soften the muscles and their ability to contract; which in turn helps to temporarily get rid of your fine lines and wrinkles.
Where Can It Be Used?
There are two types of wrinkles: static and dynamic. Static wrinkles are shown at all times and can only be treated with dermal fillers; not with Botox. Dynamic wrinkles, are what Botox is really good at treating and occur when you make expressive emotions with your eyes or forehead. When Botox is injected into these muscles, it prevents you from making these motions; thus helping to soften the wrinkles they cause as well.
Is It Safe?
Botox is an FDA approved drug which means that it is safe. However, some patients may experience side effects such as swelling or bruising at the injection site and headaches. We encourage our patients not to rub at or near the injection site because it can spread and cause a droopy eye.
How Long Does It Last?
Just like all injections, Botox is temporary and only lasts about 3-5 months. However, we can administer your injections so that you don’t have to experience much of a lag time in between your injection sessions.
